Landscaping Tips
  • Think first in terms of high quality plants.
  • Landscaping protects land from erosion, cools the environment and increases property value.
  • Look "up" before you plant.
  • Provide the full space required for a mature plant so they will not interfere with each other as they grow.
  • Don’t use pesticides, almost all attacks are temporary and no action is required.
  • Plant everything with enriched soil, which we have.
  • Plant at least two or three specimen palms and cycads that will grow more valuable over time. A 400 pesos cycad today can in less than five years time have a value of over 4,000 pesos or more.
  • Common plants add far less value to your property.
  • Landscape rock enhances garden areas, which we have.
  • Pick a style and give the plan time to evolve.
  • Buying younger plants that will grow fast, saves money and gives you the enjoyment of watching them grow.
  • If your budget does not allow a finished landscape right now, have an overall plan in mind and buy in phases.
    Plant Care
  • Two things will 99.9% of the time guarantee you a healthy plant – GOOD DRAINAGE AND WATER.
    Drainage
  • The hole for your plant should be 10 to 15cm (4 to 6 in) larger than the container width and depth.
  • Some planting locations can be really compacted so If you have concerns about the drainage for the hole make a water test.  Pour a pail of water in the hole and if after two hours it remains then consideration should be given for another location.  If after 24 hours it’s still there then definitely find another location.
  • Be sure to use a good mix of sand and enriched soil (limo and compost). This will aid in the drainage and also feed your plant.
  • The importance of good drainage also applies to plants in containers.  There must be someplace for the water to seep out otherwise the roots will rot.
    Water
  • As long as you have good drainage you can water frequently.  As a rule, minimum twice a week keeps most plants happy.
  • There are plants that are drought tolerant but even desertscape plants grow faster, look better and are healthier with regular watering.
    Fertilizers
  • At Jungle Cactus we don’t fertilize to speed up growth.  Good drainage, water and our wonderful climate does all the work in keeping our plants healthy and growing at amazing speeds.  We believe in doing this because when a plant leaves us the new owner has no worries of the plant stressing if they don’t give it the same fertilization treatment.  All the new owner needs to do is continue with  – GOOD DRAINAGE AND WATER FREQUENTLY. WE CAN’T STRESS THIS ENOUGH!!!
